Aftercare - the most important part of your new tattoo.
The life of your tattoo is dependent upon the care it receives within the first few weeks.
Keep your tattoo bandaged with cling film for around 1 hour. After this time you can remove it and with clean hands, wash your tattoo gently with warm soapy water.
Rinse thoroughly with cold water to close the pores and lightly pat dry with a clean paper towel. With clean hands, apply a THIN layer of aftercare cream roughly every 3 - 4 hours. You can do this as many times throughout the day as you need to depending on the dryness of your skin.
You should wash your tattoo twice a day repeating the above process. 'Quick' showers are ok. Continue this process for around 3 weeks.
DO NOT re-bandage your tattoo with cling film.
DO NOT use Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
DO NOT use alcohol or peroxide
DO NOT pick or scratch your tattoo. Just pat it if it itches.
DO NOT soak your tattoo in the bath or shower- get in, get clean, get out!
Stay out of sun beds, pools, hot tubs, oceans, etc. for at least three weeks. Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight.
Your tattoo will look healed in 2-3 weeks, but it needs gentle care for 6-8 weeks to reach its full potential. The first month is obvious healing, the second month is when the magic happens.
Weeks 1-2 Intensive healing care with proper cleaning and protection.
Weeks 3-4 Transition care - looks healed but still needs gentle treatment.
Weeks 5-8 Long-term care with moisturising, UV protection, and maintenance. Months 3-6 Ongoing protection to preserve your investment.
